Booze Bus

The last picture says it all from the A1 GP. Bing, collapsed on 4 chairs during the middle of a fcuking noisey car race. 2 min's later he rolls off onto the ground. After the race he slams headfirst into our parked bus, mistiming his "bull like run" charging at a Chinese flag. 2 mins after he jumps on a moving cars bonet Chuck Norris style. 10 mins later in the back of the bus weeping for his mates in the QLD Reds rugby side. Literally weeping.

Motto of the story - a bottle of Bundy Rum, and unlimited booze on the bus at 09:00 in the morning makes Binga a loose cannon.

Easter

Have to put these photos up of Easter in Shanghai with the guys @ Da Marco. Many bottles of wine were drunk [along with a bottle of grappa] and fun was had by all!

Turps on the Turps!

Check out Ian "Turp's" Turpie getting his gear off at the Aussie Chamber of Commerce Ball. He was a cracker. Then we went backstage and hit the Coopers with him. Turps on the Turps. CLASSIC!

Max "Tangles" Walker

Saturday night we went to Jinmao for the Cricketers Gala dinner - where we wined and dined with the ledgends of the game including Max "Tangles" Walker, Ian Healy, Chris Lewis and some other Indian knobjob who no-one knew and must have been lost in his way to "Punjabi" resturant.

How good was Max Walker! Brilliant! Really - the guy would talk under water! Healy was quiet, Chris Lewis was a nutter and Phil Simmons is now the size of Andre the giant!!

Good night was had by all - esp. as it nearly errupted into a brawl with the Scottish wanker at the table beside us. I think he was there with the Scottish Womens Cricket Team...a) who were friggin' ugly, and b) I had no idea they played Cricket in Scotland?

Well done peoples!

Had a fly by the sat of my pants tour back to Brisbane in early September- sorry if I didn’t have enough time for a beer with some of you but Deano was a busy man! He did have more than a few beers though: as a wise man once said “holly shitballs, good times”. Was out and about with Scott, met the lovely Ms. Liz “doctor” Dunlop, had some beautiful sausage rolls, had more than a few pints in more than a few great pubs, went to the Sunshine Coast for my cousins wedding, ate Japanese with the Dun in the Valley, got rat faced on VB, saw Paul and Lee and inspected “North Lakes” (I never said I was a good navigator!), saw a man who was a human carpet with enough hair he could be considered a “genetic mistake” (or experiment), smoked a handful of Cubans…and basically was as offensive as any man could hope to be. All in all – a worth while trip. Will be back as of the 1st of February for a 2 week stay – book it in peoples!

As we had a week off for the Chinese October National holiday –flew the coup for Thailand. Check the fotos here:

http://spaces.msn.com/members/iamthewalrus

There are a few dodgy ones there – one of me looking like David Hasslehoff on the beach with the Speedo’s – not a good sight and I pity the locals when they grabbed eyeful full of Deano. What was I thinking there!

Great holiday – Bangkok was awesome and bought a lot of stuff for the house – then Koh Chang was amazing. Cruising round the island on the moto-scooters, swimming, reading, eating some of the dead set best food I have ever tasted, dodging the advances of the "lady-boys"…doing SFA and loving it. Kudos to Veronika at the “Kharma Bar” and Kenny at “Friends” Seafood – well done guys. See you next year in October! Probably my best holiday thus far. We loved it. Thailand is paradise – and Koh Chang is the top of the mountain – get there before it gets too over run guys – what a great place. Next South East Asian Adventure – Cambodia in May.

So it’s the weekend and the Formula One is back in town this weekend in Shanghai. Interest Level – 0%. Arsed. Went last year and you see more on TV - I'd rather sit at home and drink. The tan from Thailand is fading, got a big weekend of shopping for the house and going to the tailor for some suits on Sunday… and will be watching the rugby league test on Saturday night (accompanied by a 3/4 full carton of VB kindly acquired from Fosters Brewery here in Shanghai). And for the Australians – what about bloody Shane Watson! What a guru… I remember playing golf with him at the Ipswich Country Club every bloody school holidays…those were the days. I remember on time he was in tears because a certain character by the name of Benjamin Vellacott was niggling the bejesus out of him. How times flies…

And for the rest of you – the Boxing Day Test 2006 RSVP’s are still being fielded. Thank you.

Enough. Ok. Muchos Respect. Peace, love and bananas.

part Boy Scout, part genius...all hero.

It’s all happening as they say. Lets get done to business – from the get go. Turned 26 last Saturday. Must thank the masses of fans that sent their mail wishes…mainly insulting, but non-the less touching. Grazie. Quiet day in the gym followed by MacGyver on DVD – series one. Classic stuff, as it days on the DVD box – making bomb out of chewing gum? Fixing a speeding car’s breaks…while he’s riding in it? Using soda pop to cook up tear gas? That’s all in a days adventures for MacGyver. He’s part Boy Scout, part genius. And all hero.

I wish that was written about me! I am sitting here trying to imagine some one “cook” up tear gas with a bottle of coke. Good man. Awesome.

And what also is Awesome is North Korea…here is the run down :

14th July. 7.00 am fight to Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, PRC. Purpose – to get the business visa for the DPRK, pick up travel tickets and finalize schedule for passage to Pyongyang, DPRK. Shenyang isn’t the greatest metropolises on the face of the planet – but clean enough and the noodles were nice. I mean – it has 3 consulates, as it is the closest capital city of a state in China to North Korea…and its mentioned on the CNN weather reports for Christ’s sake!

My traveling companion was Mr. Marco Tchen. Kudos Marcos! Good man. First night was spent strangely – after buying “bribes and tips” at a shop for our contacts in the DPRK (mainly cigarettes and instant noodles) we headed to the hotel restaurant. Turns out there is no body in there – so they had to basically turn everything on cause they were shut down – at 7:30pm. Tight schedule! Then…out of the blue a guy breezes in out of no-where, sites done at the table beside us (about 5 feet away), and starts to read…. What we didn’t notice but who walks in straight after us, when no other soul I in the place, doesn’t eat and just sits there…then it dawns on us that…oh yes, that’s right. The hotel is owned, managed and staffed by North Koreans…

We were briefed by our Chinese booking agency of the “do’s and don’ts”

·        Don’t mention the word fun or pleasure or holidays –its business

·        No bibles

·        No mobile phones

·        No long lens cameras

Great. So I threw out my bible (not) and headed for the Shenyang Airport. 45 mins latter – we were in “Hermit Kingdom”.

15th July: Pyongyang. Flying in I had all these preconceptions – but all l saw was green farmland. Customs was a breeze…2 flights a week doesn’t crack the stress levels at Pyongyang International Airport. Think of a 1970’s style military airport – neglected. Then you’ve got it. Koyro Air’s fleet of planes look like overgrown Lego planes – amazing they get off the ground.

After cruising through customs we were off with our “contacts” Ms Kim and Lee – one English speaking and one Chinese speaking. And a private car – driven by... none other than, you guessed it, Mr. Kim! Kim, Le, Kim…no dramas remembering names here. All the sights were done…very nice. Look at the fotos – you get the picture.

Lunch was nice and was highlighted by a prolonged power blackout. See that fotos of us at lunch in the first day – that’s 3 mins after the first blackout.

The hotel was nice and Pyongyang is clean. But there is just something you cant quite put your finger on. The people seem happy – but they’re not. OR are they, who knows? And DPRK beer is EXTREMELY malty…and nights, as we cant go out anywhere, was spent the nights in the “Casino Pyongyang” – run by dodgy Chinese in the basment of the hotel.

16th July: Mt. Mongyang. Off to see all the presents given to the Dear Leader and Great Leader. We even had to bow and pay our respects in front of a life sized wax model of Kim Il Sung. Surreal.

17th July: DMZ – the De-Militarized Zone. The big one. I can’t explain it. After a 2 hour drive down what seemed like an unpaved straight driveway (I mean this road didn’t curve for 2 hours and we only saw 2 other cars the whole way – they have these huge pillars that they can knock down to block the roads if the US/Sth. Koreans advance…)it was everything and more you think off. We were personally toured though the DMZ by an old army major. I stepped into South Korea. I sat at the table where they signed the armistice. I felt a sense like none other. One of the heaviest experiences of my life.

Then we toured the captured US Pueblo – the spy ship caught by the North Koreans in 1968.

18th July: Heading home to Shanghai.

I felt sad leaving…really. Our contacts wee so sincere and kind and genuine. I bought lots of DPRK badges and propaganda books and a copy of the Pyongyang Times Newspaper in English. I will be back with Federica…soon.

I could say more but this is long enough. IF you wan to know more – let me know children. This is a tenth of the stuff that went down. I also have videos that I will try to post as well somewhere when I get the time.

Peace. Respect. Love...and bananas. Part Boy Scout. Part genius…all hero. MacGyver

North Korea

Hey guys:

just a quick email to let you know that on Thursday we are "planned" and "booked in" for a 3 day trip to North Korea.

In all seriousness, I am really looking froward to it, but it is not 100%  as we have to pick up out visa on Thursday in Shenyang (liaoning province, north east China boarding with Nth. Korea). so basically: if they don't like me, i don't get to go.

anyway: fingers crossed. Trying to keep it very low profile for obvious reasons. Hoping we can get the visa and will give you an update round this time next week. Lots of photos will be coming your way soon.

Wish me luck!
Dean.
